María Magdalena Campos-Pons

María Magdalena Campos-Pons (born August 22, 1959 in Matanzas ) is a Cuban -American installation artist .

life and work

María Magdalena Campos-Pons studied at the National Art Schools and the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA) in Havana until 1985 . In 1988 she received her Masters in Painting and Media Art from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston . María Magdalena Campos-Pons taught at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and has been a professor at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee , since 2017 .

Campos-Pons works with the artistic media photography, painting, sculpture, video and creates installations and performances . Her topics are gender , sexuality, cultural identity and visual language studies. Since 1988 she has worked intermittently with the musician and composer Neil Leonard .

María Magdalena Campos-Pons has recorded solo exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Indianapolis Museum of Art . In 2001 and 2013 she took part in the Venice Biennale in Venice, and in 2017 in documenta 14 in Kassel.
