María del Carmen Aquino

María del Carmen Aquino Rotundo (born March 30, 1942 in Paysandú , Uruguay ) is a Uruguayan writer and journalist .

The accountant Aquino, who lives in Paysandú, is a mother of two and the grandmother of one grandchild. She founded SOS Paysandú , an organization that deals with domestic violence against women and children. She is also co-founder of the Mesa Intersectorial de Cooperativa de Paysandú (MIC). Aquino, who worked temporarily as a journalist for the radio, worked on various book publications. Her first own volume of poetry was published in 2000 under the title Canción lejena .
