Mar is a place and a former freguesia in the Concelho Esposende in the Região Norte in northern Portugal with 1181 (as of June 30, 2011) inhabitants spread over 2.4 km².

Mar is known for its São Bartolomeu do Mar menhir next to the parish church. A well-known person from the area was António Rodrigues Sampaio , a politician and journalist from the 19th century.

Every year on August 24th there is a festival in honor of Saint São Bartolomeu . The small children are immersed in the sea, which should protect them from sore throats and stuttering.

On September 29, 2013, the municipalities Mar and were Belinho merged to the Freguesias de Belinho e Mar União together.
