The Marburger Kreisbahn 4 III tank locomotive was a steam locomotive of the Marburger Kreisbahn with the wheel arrangement C, which corresponded to the Henschel type Bismarck in terms of its power and weight . Only the one locomotive is known that was manufactured by Orenstein & Koppel under the factory number 5.414.

The locomotive was delivered to the Duisburg City Building Department in 1912 , where it was number 3 . From 1925 to 1954 it drove on the Marburger Kreisbahn under the designation 4 III . It was then used by the Allendorf development company until 1964 . The last picture entry about the locomotive dates from 1960.

history

The locomotive was put into service on July 19, 1912 at the Duisburg City Building Department for the Wanheim connecting line with the number 3 . From March 1923 to March 1925 the locomotive was parked cold and then reached the Marburger Kreisbahn , where it was still in use with the number 4 in the third occupation.

The locomotive was popular and was nicknamed Lieschen by the staff . The large water tank made the locomotive flexible for use. During the Second World War , the locomotive was neglected and little used. From 1947 it was often turned off.

After the abandonment of passenger transport, the locomotive became superfluous. A new owner was found in the construction company Allendorf , where they worked in the extensive network with another Henschel locomotive . The last visual report from the locomotive dates back to 1960, its whereabouts are unknown.

technology

With an output of 350 hp and a weight of around 40 t, the locomotive corresponded to the Henschel type Bismarck and differed externally only in the different shape of the funnel . It had a side water inlet next to the boiler for the water tank between the frame cheeks and the additional water tank on the right-hand side. The coal was stowed in front of the driver's cab to the left. This meant that the locomotive had almost 1 m³ more water supply than the larger Marburger Kreisbahn 5 .

Two injectors from Strube were used to feed the boiler . The lighting was initially designed as kerosene lighting , later the locomotive was converted to electrical lighting with a turbo generator . It had a Westinghouse brake .
