Medical and scientific training

Bloching studied chemistry at RWTH Aachen from 1985 to 1988 . While still in Aachen, he began studying human medicine in 1986 at the Albertus Magnus University in Cologne , which Bloching continued at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf and graduated with the state examination at the Free University of Berlin in 1992 . In Berlin he wrote his doctorate at the Clinic for Internal Medicine with the title “Endotoxin elimination from water and plasma”, which was rated “magna cum laude”. After his recognition as an ENT specialist, he was appointed senior physician at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg in 1998 . Additional qualifications followed with study visits to New York and San Francisco in plastic-reconstructive surgery as well as skull base and orbital surgery.

In 2006 Bloching accepted the call to the W3 professorship for ear, nose and throat medicine at Saarland University , Homburg (Saar). In the same year he founded the Cochlear Implant Center Saarland . Here, patients learn how to use the cochlear implant and the correct classification of acoustic environmental stimuli and are supported by surgeons, audiologists, pedagogues and speech therapists. In addition, Bloching received grants from the Saarland state government in the amount of 316,000 euros to set up an "international institute for research into communication disorders". The main task of the institute is to research hearing disorders in children and noises in the ears ( tinnitus ).

Focus of work

In 2001, media attention was drawn to an early detection test for cancer tumors in the neck and head area, which Bloching and his team developed. The test detects genetic changes using a biomarker in human saliva. In 2002 he completed his habilitation at the Martin Luther University with the thesis "Estimation of the relative tumor disease risk in the head and neck area using biomarkers". In 2003 Bloching was appointed acting director of the local ENT clinic.

Since 2008 Bloching has been chief physician for ENT medicine, head and neck surgery and communication disorders at the Helios Clinic Berlin-Buch. As a head and neck surgeon and head of the Berlin-Brandenburg hearing center, he specializes in the interdisciplinary, outpatient and surgical treatment of ENT diseases as well as facial plastic surgery, in particular of the nose. In addition, Bloching has developed the Berlin-Buch Clinic into the “most recommended” center for cancer of the throat . The ENT clinic is part of the certified cancer center Berlin-Buch.

Committee work

In 2009 Bloching became head of the working group for "Rhinology and Rhinosurgery" of the German Society for ENT Medicine, Head and Neck Surgery , where his main focus was functional nose surgery. In 2007 he held the main lecture of the German ENT Society - Medicine, Head and Neck Surgery on the subject of "Disorders of the nasal valve function". In June 2010 Bloching was elected chairman of the North German Society for Otorhinolaryngology and Cervicofacial Surgery and headed the associated congress as President.
