Marc Compernol

Marc Compernol (born April 8, 1957 in Bruges ) is a Belgian ex- general . From 2016 to 2020 he was the commander of the Belgian armed forces .

Military career

With his entry into the Royal Cadet School in Laeken / Laken in 1972, Marc Compernol decided early on for a military career. After various posts in the Belgian Army (most recently as its commander), he was appointed to the post of Deputy Chief of the General Staff on September 3, 2012 . On July 13, 2016, he was promoted to general, appointed to the post of Chief of Staff and replaced Gerard Van Caelenberge .

Marc Compernol retired on July 12, 2020. He was succeeded as commander of the armed forces by his previous deputy Michel Hofman .
