Marc Garthe (born May 20, 1966 in Toronto , Ontario , Canada ) is a former German ice hockey player and current coach who was active in the German ice hockey league for the Eisbären Berlin during his playing career . Garthe has been running its own ice hockey school under the Canadian Elite Hockey Academy (CEHA) brand since 2013 .
Career as a player
When Garthe played from 1984 to 1987 with the Columbia Valley Rockies in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL), he was coached from 1986 to 1987 by Tom Renney . This in turn was later, among other things, coach of the Canadian national team and the Edmonton Oilers . 1986-87 Marc Garthe was the third best top scorer in the league and top scorer of his team.
In 1987 Garthe took part in the Canadian Winter Games with the British Columbia team and won the Bonze Medal with his team. During this time Marc Garthe played with future National Hockey League players Drake Dallas , Jon Klemm , Dane Jackson and Jim Hiller .
Garthe played for the Eisbären Berlin in the DEL from 1995 to 1996 . He completed a total of 37 DEL games.
Career as a coach
During the 2008/09 season Marc Garthe was the full-time junior coach of the Harzer Jung-Wölfe and in the 2010/11 season he was also the player-trainer for the Harzer Wölfen Braunlage in the Oberliga, full-time junior trainer and vice-president of the club.
From November 15, 2012 to November 2013, Garthe was the trainer of the Lauterbach lynx.
Garthe has been focusing on young talent since 2013 and has founded his own ice hockey school under the Canadian Elite Hockey Academy (CEHA) brand with a focus on children aged four to 18. The CEHA organizes several training camps all over Germany every year. In addition to Garthe, the coaching staff also includes the DEL players Tino Boos , Len Soccio , Terry Campbell and Boris Rousson as well as other coaches. A special feature of CEHA are its own all-star teams, to which participants in the training camps are nominated. The all-star teams successfully take part in national and international tournaments and are coached by Garthe.
From 2015 to the end of the 2016/17 season, Garthe also taught in the coaching staff of the youth department of the Grizzlys Wolfsburg .
For the 2019/2020 season, in addition to his involvement in his ice hockey school, Garthe took over the position of head coach at the ice hockey club Huskies Luxembourg .
