Marc Halbheer (born July 10, 1965 in Zurich ) is a Swiss jazz drummer .

Halbheer, who grew up in Zollikon , started singing songs with the ukulele Mani Matter as a young boy. He then played guitar and piano and switched to drums at the age of fourteen (initially under the guidance of Dölf Aebersold and Reed St. Claire). After graduating from high school in 1985, he first studied law , but then presented his first own band and LP with the Insects - Odd Meter Jazz Inspired by Steve Coleman's Five Elements - played fast hardcore with Calhoun Conquer and countless jazz gigs with well-known musicians from the Zurich scene, in particular in the jazz club Bazillus. In 1988 he moved to Los Angeles , where he studied with Ralph Humphrey, Ed Mann and John Bergamo . There the band founded Exit with Lior Yekutieli and Yiotis Kiourtsoglou and moved through the clubs with jazz, rock and Latin bands. In 1991 he returned to Switzerland, where he was commissioned to set up the drum and rhythm department at the Lucerne Jazz School in 1992 and has been a professor there to this day. In 1992 he became a member of the Vienna Art Orchestra and was involved in its albums Fe and Males, European Songbook and VAO Plays for Jean Cocteau . He also performed with Heiri Känzig , Christy Doran, Christoph Baumann , the Tien Shan Switzerland Express and the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich. Since 2012 he lives partly in Madrid (Sp) and started to deal with the flamenco tradition. He founded the band Madrid Edition with whom he has played in Spain, England and Switzerland so far. He has toured all over the world and performed at numerous festivals. In his career he has had the opportunity to work with many legendary musicians. Milcho Leviev, David Angel, Frank Strazzeri, Stacy Rowles, Arild Andersen, Martin Tillman, Satnam Ramgotra, Alex Wilson, Jorge Pardo or Pepe Habichuela are just a few on this long list.
