Marcelo Sosa , full name Marcelo Fabián Sosa Farias , (born June 2, 1978 in Montevideo ) is a former Uruguayan football player .

Career

society

The 1.80 meter tall midfielder Sosa was at the beginning of his career from 1996 to 2003 in the ranks of the Uruguayan first division club Danubio FC . This was followed by a position at Spartak Moscow in 2004 . He then moved to Atlético Madrid . There he made his debut on September 12, 2004 in a 2-0 away win against Albacete in the Primera División . His last of a total of 28 league games (no goal) for the Madrilenians he completed on May 15, 2005 against Betis Sevilla . He also played in four Copa del Rey games . In the 2005/06 season he stood up for the Spanish first division club CA Osasuna from his first game on August 28, 2005 to his last appearance on May 7, 2006, eleven times in the league, twice in the UEFA Cup and twice in the Copa del Rey the place. He was loaned to Osasuna by Atlético. From August 2006, another station on loan followed in Argentina at River Plate , which was then trained by Daniel Passarella . In 2007 Nacional Montevideo was his employer. In early January 2008 he signed with the Mexican club Estudiantes Tecos . In the 2008/09 season there are 25 first division games to book. Since January 2010 he played for Club Atlético Peñarol . In the Clausura 2010 he contributed with eight first division appearances (no goal) to win the Uruguayan championship title. In the 2010/11 season he ran in 13 games (two goals) of the Primera División and four encounters (one goal) of the Copa Sudamericana . At the beginning of February 2011 he left the "Aurinegros" and joined the league competitor Racing . At the club, which is also based in Montevideo, he played nine (no goal) in the 2010/11 season and 19 games (one goal) in the top Uruguayan league in the following season. In mid-September 2012 he moved to Danubio FC. In the 2012/13 season he was used there in 18 first division games (no goal).

National team

Sosa was a member of the Uruguayan senior team . He made his debut under national coach Gustavo Ferrín on February 4, 2003 in a 4-2 win (1-1) after penalties in the Carlsberg Cup against Iran as a member of the starting line-up. In the following years he also played regularly in the national team under national coach Juan Ramón Carrasco and Jorge Fossati . Under the aegis of the latter, he took part in the 2004 Copa America . His last appearance was on November 16, 2005 in the 1-0 defeat in the World Cup qualifying play-off game against Australia. Fossati was also the national coach in charge at the time. He made a total of 27 international matches and scored two goals.
