Marcelo Tabárez , full name Marcelo Tabárez Rodríguez , (born February 10, 1993 in Montevideo ) is a Uruguayan football player .

According to his club, the 1.70 meter tall offensive player Tabárez comes from the youth of Danubio. He has played there since the Séptima División (U-14). With the U-14 coached by Gustavo Machaín , he was both champion and top scorer. Fabricio Formiliano and Gabriel De León were among his teammates there . With the team of the Quinta División he took part in the Copa Santiago 2011 and was only defeated there in the final. During the tournament, Tabarez contributed three goals for Danubio.

He also distinguished himself as a successful goal scorer in the other age groups. He scored a total of 27 goals in the Séptima, 23 goals in the Sexta, 24 goals in the U-16, 28 goals in the Quinta, 23 goals in the Cuarta and 18 goals in the Tercera. He already trained in the first team in the Apertura 2011 and has been in the squad of the first division club Danubio at least since the Clausura 2013 . For the Montevideans, he played four games in the Primera División since the first use on March 30, 2013 in the 0-1 defeat against Nacional Montevideo until the end of the 2012/13 season . He did not score a hit.

In the 2013/14 season he contributed ten more missions (no goal) to win the national championship title. According to Uruguayan press reports, he then moved to the Grasshoppers Zurich . In a friendly match in January 2015, however, he was back in the ranks of Danubio. Apparently the move to Switzerland did not materialize. In the 2014/15 season he played eight times for Danubio in the Primera División and scored three times in the opposing goal. He was also used three times in the 2015 Copa Libertadores .

In the course of a positive doping test following the Copa Libertadores duel with São Paulo FC on February 25, 2015, Tabárez was diagnosed with testicular cancer in April 2015 , which, according to Danubio's vice-president Leonardo Goicoechea, was 99% Probability was the trigger of the positive result of the doping test.

In the 2015/16 season he was used twelve times in the top Uruguayan league and scored three goals. During the 2016 season, the usage statistics show him four first division games and one goal.
