Marcia Cristina Bernardes Barbosa (born January 14, 1960 in Porto Alegre , Rio Grande do Sul ) is a Brazilian physicist and university professor who is known for her research on the properties of water .

life and work

Barbosa graduated from the Colégio Marechal Rondon in Canoas , Rio Grande do Sul. In 1981 she completed her bachelor's degree, her master's degree in 1984 and her doctorate in 1988 at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) in Porto Alegre. She then worked for two years as a postdoc in Michael E. Fisher's research group at the University of Maryland . In Brazil she got a permanent position at the UFRGS, where she works as a full professor of physics to this day. She is on the board of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences and an advisor to the American Physical Society and the Sociedade Brasileira de Física .
