Marco Schällibaum
Marco Schällibaum (born April 6, 1962 in Zurich ) is a former Swiss football player and most recently the football coach of FC Aarau . He played at Grasshopper Club Zurich , FC Basel , Servette Geneva and FC Luzern .
Life
After his career as a professional footballer, he worked as an assistant coach at FC Basel. In 1999 he became the coach of BSC Young Boys , with whom he was promoted to National League A in 2001 and the UEFA Cup in 2002 . For the 2003/04 season he was coach at Servette Geneva. Later he was a trainer at Concordia Basel . In November 2006 he coached FC Sion , but was released the same month. On April 2, 2007, he signed a contract with the then relegation-threatened FC Schaffhausen . He could not prevent relegation, but remained a coach at FC Schaffhausen in the Challenge League . On April 28, 2008 it was announced that he will leave Schaffhausen at the end of the 2008/09 season. On June 6, 2008, his immediate move to the Super League promoted AC Bellinzona was announced.
On November 1, 2009, he resigned from AC Bellinzona after a 5-0 home defeat against FC St. Gallen .
On May 17, 2010 Marco Schällibaum took over FC Lugano on an interim basis for the two Axpo Super League barrage games of the 2009/10 season. Although he did not achieve promotion, his contract was extended for the 2010/11 season. He was then hired by FIFA and worked for two years as a trainer for new coaches in Asia.
In January 2013 Schällibaum took over the coaching post at the Canadian club Montreal Impact from the Major League Soccer . In mid-December, Schällibaum was released from the Montreal Impacts.
Between 1983 and 1988 he was on the field 31 times for the Swiss national soccer team .
