Marco Walker (born May 2, 1970 in Solothurn ) is a former Swiss football player . He is part of the coaching staff at FC Aarau .

Player career

Marco Walker began his playing career at the age of 18 with FC Grenchen in Switzerland. In 1990 he moved to FC Lugano . For Lugano, Walker played 42 league games in which he scored a goal. He moved to FC Basel for the 1992/93 season and played for Basel until 1996. He recommended himself for a foreign engagement and made his debut for the Swiss national football team . From the 1996/97 season , the left full-back played for TSV 1860 Munich . Walker played two seasons for Munich in the first division before joining Tennis Borussia Berlin in the summer of 1998 . The newly promoted from the regional league ended up in the top third of the table. When the club's license for the 2nd Bundesliga was revoked in 2000, Walker left the club.

Walker returned to Switzerland and moved to FC St. Gallen . After two seasons he went to FC Aarau . With his performances he was able to make himself interesting for the 2nd Bundesliga in the 2002/03 season. The 1. FSV Mainz 05 undertook Walker and made him the first rise in club history in the 1. Bundesliga. Until 2005, Walker only played for the Mainz team in the Regionalliga Süd .

The ten-time national player ended his career in 2006 at BSC Old Boys Basel in Switzerland.

As a trainer

Walker worked as an assistant trainer at Concordia Basel from 2007 to 2009 . In January 2009 he moved to his former club, FC Basel, and became assistant coach under Christian Gross . When Thorsten Fink took over the coaching position from Gross a short time later, Walker was assigned the task of monitoring team fitness. Walker was part of the Basel coaching staff.

He has been an assistant coach at FC Aarau since June 2018 .
