Marcus Aemilius Lepidus the Younger

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Marcus Aemilius Lepidus († 31 BC ) was the son of the Roman triumvir of the same name and his wife Junia . He inscribed 31 BC BC allegedly started a conspiracy against Octavian (later Emperor Augustus ) and was executed.

Life

Marcus Aemilius Lepidus was around 36 BC. Spouse of Servilia , who lived in 43 BC. Was briefly engaged to Octavian. Lepidus' mother Iunia was a half sister of the Caesar murderer Marcus Iunius Brutus . His father, the triumvir Lepidus, was defeated in the power struggle against his triumvirate colleague Octavian. Was completely disempowered. As Octavian 31 BC BC in Greece against Mark Antony led the war for sole rule in the Roman Empire , he let his confidante Maecenas exercise the supervision of Italy . This uncovered a conspiracy against Octavian, allegedly instigated by the younger Lepidus treated here, but not yet fully developed. Lepidus is said to have planned to murder Caesar's adopted son after his return to Rome . He was seized on the orders of Maecenas and sent to Octavian in Greece so that the latter could pass the sentence himself. Octavian had just finished the Battle of Actium on September 2, 31 BC. BC won against Antonius and had Lepidus executed immediately. Servilia then voluntarily followed her husband into death. The father of the younger Lepidus and former triumvir, who was completely uninvolved in the plot, was born until his death in 12 BC. BC placed under even stricter guard by Octavian.
