Marcus Livius Denter († after 295 BC) rose as the first representative of the Roman plebeian family of the Livians in 302 BC. To the consulate .

Life

Nothing is known about the early stages of the official career ( cursus honorum ) of Marcus Livius Denter. He reached the highest state office in 302 BC. Together with Marcus Aemilius Paullus . During their consulate, the Spartan prince Cleonymos landed in southern Italy and, according to different accounts of Roman annalists, handed down by the historian Titus Livius, he was either defeated and expelled by the consul Aemilius Paullus or he was gone before the arrival of the dictator Gaiongus Iunius Bubulcus Bruteltes sent against him .

After the decision of the Lex Ogulnia 300 BC. BC plebeians were also allowed to hold priesthood positions, Livius Denter was one of the first four representatives of his class to be elected pontifices that year . In this capacity he is said to be 295 BC. During the decisive battle of Sentinum he stood at the side of his fellow priest and consul of four Publius Decius Mus , when during the great distress of the Roman armed forces he voluntarily dedicated himself to death by personal attack on the enemy and then fell.
