Marilyn "Marcy" Jeanne McGuire (born February 22, 1926 in Kansas City , Kansas ) is an American actress and singer who was best known for her roles in music films and comedies .

Life

Marcy McGuire was born in Kansas City in 1926. Her father worked as a projectionist, her parents separated in the 1930s. McGuire was discovered in 1942 at the age of sixteen and signed to RKO Pictures . Her first role she got in the same year in the musical comedy Seven Days' Leave alongside Lucille Ball .

In the following years McGuire was seen in a total of ten other films, most of them comedies and music films. Among her best-known film performances the role of heard Mickey in the 1944 musical film appeared Higher and Higher alongside Frank Sinatra and Michèle Morgan . In the same year she starred alongside Virginia Mayo in the female lead in the comedy Seven Days Ashore . 1945 followed the female lead in the music film Sing Your Way Home , which received an Oscar nomination in 1946 in the category "Best Song" . McGuire was also active as a singer (vocal range contra-alto ) and took over several vocal parts in her films, including the 1945 Oscar-nominated song I'll Buy That Dream .

In 1952, McGuire officially ended her acting career with a role in the comedy film Horrors of the Division at the side of Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis , but was seen again in a small role as Ellen in the musical film Summer Magic in 1963 .

Marcy McGuire was married to actor Wally Cassell from 1947 until his death in 2015 .
