Marek Ostrowski (born November 22, 1959 in Skrwilno ; † March 6, 2017 in Stockerau , Austria ) was a Polish football player .

Club career

Marek Ostrowski played most of his career at Pogoń Stettin , where he played 181 games and 24 goals in the Ekstraklasa . Before that, he played with Wisła Płock in the third Polish division, and from 1978 to 1980 with Stoczniowiec Gdańsk in the second-highest division. In 1989 he moved to Austria in the 2nd division for VfB Mödling and SV Stockerau , where he won the ÖFB Cup with the latter in 1991 and took part in the European Cup. His last club as an active soccer player was SC Klosterneuburg in 1912 , to which he moved in 1995 after five years at Stockerau. In early January 2017, he suffered a heart attack. A few days after his discharge from the hospital, he died in his sleep on March 6, 2017.

National team career

Marek Ostrowski played 37 full international matches for the Polish national soccer team and took part in the 1986 World Cup in Mexico . In the national team, he made his debut on January 25, 1981 in Tokyo in a 2-0 win over Japan . He played his last international match on October 27, 1987 in Bratislava in a 3-1 defeat against Czechoslovakia .
