Marek Radke

Marek Radke (born February 11, 1952 in Olsztyn , Warmia-Masuria ) is a Polish-German artist who deals with geometric shapes in his works. He lives in Bad Driburg .

Life

When he was five years old Radke moved to Danzig , where he spent his youth. From 1972 to 1978 he studied art and education at the University of Gdansk and the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan. In 1974 he married; the marriage resulted in two children. From 1978 to 1983 he worked as an art teacher in schools.

During martial law in Poland (1981–1983) he created a series of figurative pictures that deal critically with the political situation at the time. After two illegal exhibitions, he left Poland in December 1983. First he emigrated to Finland, only to move from there to Germany a year later.

The first six years in Germany he worked in a Paderborn steel mill. During this time he painted and exhibited a lot. His painting in exile entered a phase of great change. He returns to the principle of his earlier way of working - the three-dimensional color constructions. Since then, his representational allusions have been so simplified that only a distant connection with the original figure remains. What is shown does not remind of its origin, but represents a sign that has been reduced to the simplest geometric form. Radke is inspired by specific topics, he paints abstract, geometrically conceived compositions that have no relation to the real and the visible. This is why some critics assign his work to constructivism with the reservation that it is a freer and less analytical constructivism. Marek Radke is a legitimate successor, but not an imitator, and this subtle difference speaks for the quality of his work.

In 1991 he received a permanent residence and work permit. From 1992 to 1994 he studied graphic design and computer animation at the Siemens / Nixdorf Training Center in Frankfurt am Main. 1994–2003 he worked as a freelance graphic artist for the Hochstift Paderborn Museum in Wewelsburg. In the years 2000-2010 Marek Radke lived in Bielefeld. Since 2000, in addition to his painting, he has been working with spatial forms, installations in which objects are brought into UV light (black light) [1] [2]. The first spatial sculptures were created in 2011. Since 2009 he has also had German citizenship.
