Maren Brandenburger

Maren Brandenburger (* 1968 in Kiel ) is a German political scientist and was President of the Lower Saxony Office for the Protection of the Constitution from 2013 to 2018 .

Life

Maren Brandenburger studied politics and history in Heidelberg and Hanover . In 1995 she wrote her thesis on the Stasi Records Act with Joachim Perels . In 1995 she joined the SPD . In 1996 she applied to the Lower Saxony Office for the Protection of the Constitution. "Dealing with extremism in a democracy was appealing to me, " she said in 2015 about her motives for choosing a career at the time. During the first few years she worked in public relations for the agency and became press spokeswoman in 2003. After the red-green victory in the state elections in 2013 , she replaced the incumbent Hans Wargel as the first female head of the authority on the appointment of Interior Minister Boris Pistorius ; the Greens had called for a fundamental reorientation of the state's protection of the constitution. Because an undercover agent was exposed through the authority's negligence, the Interior Minister replaced her as President in November 2018. She is said to have asked for her transfer and is now to fill a department head position for integration in the Lower Saxony Ministry of Social Affairs, which is paid four levels lower.

Brandenburger lives with her partner in the Hanover region .
