Margarete Bellmer
Margarete Bellmer , née Hoppe, (born June 25, 1930 - October 16, 2018 in Garbsen ) was a German bookseller and local history researcher who was recognized for her voluntary work.
Life
Bellmer initially lived in Bremen, where she met her future husband, the editor Karl Bellmer. She moved with him to Frankfurt, where she worked as a bookseller and co-founded an author's bookstore in which authors such as FK Waechter as well as Almut and Robert Gernhardt were represented.
In 1984 she returned to Garbsen, Osterwald, to take care of her single mother and built up an archive of the memories of the rural residents there, which is now in the Garbsen city archive. In the 1980s she was a member of the board of a citizens' initiative against the extension of the northern runway at Hanover Airport . In addition, she was a founding member in 1988 and since 2004 honorary chairman of the StadtArchivVerein Garbsen eV
On June 12, 2015, she was awarded the Medal of Merit for exemplary service to the neighbor of Lower Saxony in the Haus Hannover region . Her longstanding voluntary social commitment to those in need was recognized.
