Merit medal for exemplary service to one's neighbor

The merit medal for exemplary service to one's neighbor is an award from the state of Lower Saxony . It can be awarded to natural persons who have rendered service to their neighbors in Lower Saxony through voluntary and exemplary actions . The medal was donated in 1984 by a resolution of the Lower Saxony state government . In 1996 the foundation charter was renewed. The medal, along with a pin and certificate, is awarded as a token of recognition and thanks from the Lower Saxony Prime Minister .

requirements

The prerequisite for the recognition is a personal, voluntary, independent and award-worthy performance, "which was performed with great personal commitment and with deferring own interests over a long period" in the service of one or more fellow human beings.

Previous sponsors (selection)

The first awards were made in 1985. By 2013, a total of 589 people had been awarded. Among them are:

  • 2000: Emma Frede in Hanover
  • 2011: Friedhelm Groß (* around 1941) for his commitment to the Eversburg Citizens' Association , Osnabrück
  • 2013: Martha Masbaum , volunteer for around three decades in the senior citizens' club Stirpe-Oelingen-Herringhausen in Stirpe-Oelingen, which she founded and visited across generations
  • Franz Rießelmann (1913–2009), banker, treasurer and registrar, also received the Nieberding sign from the city of Lohne
  • 2016: Niki Meyer for her commitment in the Soltau Hospital as a so-called Green Lady and especially for her services in the refugee crisis.
