Margarete Engländer , b. Pastor, (born February 22, 1895 in Krefeld , † May 8, 1984 ibid) was a German politician of the CDU .

Life and work

After attending a secondary school for girls and graduating from high school, an Englishman who was Protestant studied languages ​​in Switzerland and completed a commercial training. She also worked in a weaving mill. During the First World War she interrupted her studies and worked as a nurse for the DRK in Krefeld . Since 1925 she was a member of the Evangelical Women's Aid and the Patriotic Women's Association .

In 1917 she married the silk goods manufacturer Ernst Engländer, who died in 1947.

After the Second World War , Engländer became a board member of the DRK sorority in Krefeld in 1947 and was a member of the board of trustees of the Krefeld nursing home "Wilhelmshof" and the YMCA apprentice home in Krefeld. In 1949 she became chairwoman of the “Krefeld women's association for women who have recently given birth and care for babies”. At the North Rhine-Westphalian state association of the German Parity Welfare Association , she was deputy chairwoman from 1957.

Political party

Margarete Engländer joined the CDU as early as 1945. In 1952 she came to the state executive committee of the CDU North Rhine and two years later she was elected third chairman of the Krefeld Union. She was a member of the main committee of the CDU Local Political Association and a board member of the CDU-North Rhine 's women's committee .

MPs

From 1949 onwards, an Englishman was a city councilor in Krefeld. She was a member of the German Bundestag from 1957 to 1961 and from August 1, 1962, when she replaced the late Helene Weber , until 1965.

Honors

Margarete Engländer was granted honorary citizenship of her hometown Krefeld in 1973 . On August 23, 1984, the city of Krefeld named the "Engländerstraße" in the Baackeshof district after her.
