Status: end of career

Sascha Kirschstein (born June 9, 1980 in Braunschweig ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper .

Career

In his youth, Kirschstein played for the clubs FSB Braunschweig (renamed SV Olympia 92 Braunschweig in 1992 ) and BSC Braunschweig . In 1996 he moved to Eintracht Braunschweig , from 2002 to 2004 he played for Rot-Weiss Essen , with whom he was promoted to the second division.

In 2004 he was signed by Hamburger SV , for whom he made his Bundesliga debut on November 26, 2005, when he moved up to the first team for the injured goalkeeper Stefan Wächter . From March to October 2006 he was a regular goalkeeper for Hamburger SV until coach Thomas Doll went back to Wächter. Kirschstein guarded the HSV goal three times in the Champions League and twice in the UEFA Cup . After HSV had signed former Schalke Frank Rost during the winter break of the 2006/07 season , Kirschstein was only a substitute goalkeeper. For the 2007/08 season he therefore moved to Greuther Fürth ; the Franks loaned him from HSV for two years. Here he ousted the goalkeeper of the previous season, Stephan Loboué, at the beginning of the season . In the 2007/08 season Benjamin Siegert from SV Wehen Wiesbaden scored the fastest goal in German professional football against SpVgg Greuther Fürth : he put the ball in Kirschstein's goal after eight seconds. In the autumn of 2008, Loboué again succeeded in ousting Kirschstein.

For the 2009/10 season, Kirschstein moved from Greuther Fürth to Rot Weiss Ahlen ; at the same time, his contract with Hamburger SV, which was valid until 2011, was terminated in June 2009. For the 2010/11 season he moved to the second Bundesliga, FC Ingolstadt . From the 14th day of play he lost his regular place to Ramazan Özcan .

From July 1, 2013, he was under contract with Erzgebirge Aue . After Aue was relegated to the 3rd division , Kirschstein joined the ACS Poli Timișoara for a year . He is the first German goalkeeper to appear in the Romanian football championship .

From July 2016 he was without a club; most recently he was under contract with ACS Poli Timișoara in Romania . In the winter break of 2016/17 he returned to his former club Rot Weiss Ahlen in the Regionalliga West. With the club he was relegated to the Westphalian football league . He was still part of the Ahlen squad in the 2017/18 season, but was no longer used. Then he ended his active career.
