Johanna Martha Margarete Petraschk (born March 2, 1898 in Dresden , † May 13, 1986 in Sebnitz ) was a German museologist and local researcher.

Life

She was the daughter of master tailor Johann Friedrich Adolf Petraschk from the Saxon state capital; her younger brother was the photographer Karl-Artur Petraschk . After attending school, she started a teacher training course and attended the teachers' seminar, which she successfully completed. At the age of 20 she came to Sebnitz , where she started working as a teacher at the local school. In her free time, she was particularly interested in the history of her new hometown on the edge of Saxon Switzerland and in Saxon folk art. At an early stage she attentively accompanied the work of the then voluntarily managed city museum in Sebnitz, to which she led numerous school classes.

After the Second World War, she was offered the full-time management of the Sebnitz City Museum, which she did in 1949. Although she had little financial means at the beginning, she was able to expand the museum further through committed personal commitment and to give it a new reputation among the public. She created an inventory and collected extensive material on the city's history and the local folk art. The artists working in Sebnitz were of particular interest, including Ilse Ohnesorge and Adolf Tannert , about whom she published several times and organized lectures and exhibitions. She managed to secure valuable parts of the estates of these artists for the Sebnitz City Museum.

Her research areas also included the representation of the way of life of the hand weavers in Sebnitz in the 19th century, the way of celebrating Christmas and the different gingerbread models in Sebnitz and the surrounding area, the valuable embroidered cloths from the 18th and 19th centuries, the various ornaments in the wall and house cladding in the Sebnitzer room.

Margarete Petraschk was a member of the Kulturbund of the GDR and was particularly active in the district committee for cultural history / folklore in the Dresden district . Several of her essays have been published in the Sächsische Heimatblätter, in the calendar Sächsische Gebirgsheimat , in the culture mirror for the district of Sebnitz or in daily newspapers of the region. She edited a series of publications for the Sebnitz City Museum.

In 1972 she retired at the age of 75.
