Manfred Schober

Manfred Schober (born December 28, 1941 in Liegnitz , Silesia ) is a German local researcher and former director of the local history museum in Sebnitz .

Life

In the post-war period, Manfred Schober came to Sebnitz with his family as a child. As a 15-year-old, he volunteered for the Sebnitzer Heimatmuseum. After an apprenticeship as a book printer , he worked for a few years in a book printing company. From 1972 to 2004 he headed the Sebnitz Artificial Flowers and Local History Museum “Prof. Alfred Meiche . In the first years of his activity as museum director, he completed a distance learning course in folklore at the Humboldt University in Berlin .

Act

During his time as museum director, he integrated important collections into the museum, including a. the legacies of the local historian Alfred Meiche from Sebnitz and the founder of the Hohnstein puppet stage Max Jacob , original writings by the Saxon-Switzerland developer Wilhelm Leberecht Götzinger and works by Hanns Georgi and Ilse Ohnesorge . As a local researcher, Schober publishes numerous books on the history of Sebnitz and the surrounding area. His best-known work to date, Sebnitz , appeared in 2003 : from the history of a Saxon town on the border between Elbe Sandstone and Upper Lusatian Bergland , which is the first detailed treatise of Sebnitz's history since Götzinger's chronicle of 1786.

Awards

In 2017, Schober was made an honorary citizen of the city of Sebnitz. This award was given for the last time in 1979. He is also an honorary member of the Saxon Homeland Security Association .
