Margarethe Bacher

Margarethe Bacher (born November 11, 1934 in Bačko Dobro Polje , Yugoslavia , † January 8, 2005 ) was a German cook. She led her Hostellerie Bacher in Neunkirchen- Kohlhof to a Michelin star .

Born in 1934 as an ethnic German in Yugoslavia, Margarethe Bacher came to Germany in 1953 as a late returnee. After attending a household school, the star chef began her career in 1958 as a kitchen assistant in the casino of the Neunkircher Eisenwerke, where she worked out the position of head chef. In 1978 Margarethe Bacher set up her own restaurant, Hostellerie Bacher , which was first in Neunkirchen, and from 1989 onwards in the Kohlhof district. In 1999 a guest house was added. In 1979 the restaurant received a Michelin star, which it retained until 2004.

Margarethe Bacher succumbed to cancer at the age of 70. Since then, her successor Hermann Wögerbauer has been running her restaurant with an attached hotel under the name “Hostellerie Bacher-Wögerbauer”.
