Margatteoidea amoena is a probably extinct species of cockroach that was endemic to the Amirants . It is known only from five specimenscollectedon the island of Desroches in 1905.

features

The males are 10 mm in length, the females are 8 mm smaller. The light whitish-yellow tegmina and the wings are fully developed in both sexes. The head is drawn dark. The front breast is lined with black. The tegmina has gray edges. The anterior lower edge of the fore legs is thorny and has two distal spines. Only the fourth tarsal phalanx is provided with a pulvillus . The tarsal claws are symmetrical and unspecialized. Arolias ( adhesive lobes ) are available. Margatteoidea amoena differs from species of the similar genus Margattea mainly in the absence of pulvillae on the three proximal tarsal limbs.

Margatteoidea amoena inhabited the coastal woodland and coconut plantations.

status

Margatteoidea amoena was 2012 "extinct" by the IUCN in the categories ( extinct ) classified. Despite an intensive search in 2006, there has been no reliable evidence of the species since the type collection. In 2007, a fire caused serious damage to the remaining forest areas on Desroches.

Systematics

The species was described by Ignacio Bolívar in 1924 as Supella amoena . In 1959 it was classified by Kārlis Princis as a type of the new genus Margatteoidea .
