Margita von Rochow (* 1921 ; † 1974 in Lausanne ) was a botanist , palynologist and plant sociologist .

Life

In 1942, Margita von Rochow and Reinhold Tüxen mapped the vegetation of the area near Auschwitz . It is not known whether she and Tüxen knew about the purpose of this mapping.

On June 29, 1948, Margita von Rochow received her doctorate with her work Die Vegetation des Kaiserstuhl: Plant sociology. Regional monograph with e. Kt. D. Plant communities on a scale of 1:25,000 at the Natural Science and Mathematics Faculty of the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg .

Margita von Rochow was a research assistant at the geobotanical institute of the Georg-August University in Göttingen from 1948 to 1956 . In 1957 she married Pierre Villaret , who at that time was still an associate professor in Lausanne (from 1966 director of the Institute for Botanical Systematics, from 1972 full professor). After her marriage she called herself Margita Villaret-von Rochow. She moved to Lausanne after her marriage and had two children (1958 and 1960).

From 1957 until her death in 1974 she was a research assistant at the Geobotanical Institute Rübel at the ETH Zurich in Lausanne. Among other things, she worked with Werner Lüdi on experimental ecosystem research on Schynigen Platte in the Bernese Oberland. She held a professorship in Lausanne.
