FAES Farma is a listed Spanish company in the pharmaceutical industry. The company was founded in 1933 in Lamiaco, near Bilbao , in the Basque region . In the beginning, neoarsenobenzene was mainly produced for the treatment of syphilis , but the production program was very quickly expanded to include other products for a variety of diseases. While weed killers and insecticides were also manufactured in the 1960s, the company began to focus more and more on its purely pharmaceutical products from the 1970s onwards. The company's headquarters were now in the state capital, Madrid, and a research center was operated in Bilbao.
