Alexander Siebenhärl (born December 18, 1919 in Munich ; † June 12, 2008 there ) was a Roman Catholic priest , clergyman and long-time pastor of the parish of St. Magdalena Ottobrunn and dean of the Ottobrunn deanery. He was the holder of the Federal Cross of Merit , an honorary citizen of the Hohenbrunn community and namesake of the Pfarrer-Siebenhärl-Weg between Ottobrunn and Hohenbrunn.

Life and pastoral work

Siebenhärl was the second child of his parents after his sister Georgina. After graduating from high school in 1939, he entered the Archbishop's Clerical Seminar in Freising . Because of the outbreak of war, seminars and lectures were relocated to Eichstätt . Since Siebenhärl was not fit for military service due to a visual impairment, he remained the only Freising candidate in Eichstätt. On July 2, 1944, he was the only priest to be ordained to receive the sacrament of ordination from Cardinal Faulhaber in Freising . During the last year of the war, Siebenhärl first worked as a cooperator administrator in Fridolfing (1944) and then (1945) as a temporary priest in Weildorf , before he took up his chaplaincy in Munich- Maria Heimsuchung in 1946 . In 1952 he came to Ottobrunn, where he initially worked as an assistant priest in St. Otto . From 1959 Siebenhärl was entrusted with the development of the parish of St. Magdalena: first as curate (1959) and parish curate (1960), from 1963 as pastor until he was transferred to permanent retirement in 1995. Siebenhärl was also dean of the deanery from 1971 to 1976 Ottobrunn. Since September 1st, 1981 he also worked as the parish administrator of St. Stephanus Hohenbrunn .

In addition to his pastoral work, Alexander Siebenhärl also turned his attention to the social services of the church: He opened the parish library in 1962 and the kindergarten in 1965. In 1972 Siebenhärl was co-founder and until his retirement he was 2nd chairman of the social welfare organization in the district of Munich-Southeast. Through his many years of commitment and his personal nature, Siebenhärl shaped his parish for decades. Even today it says on a memorial page of the parish association about him:

“He did his job faithfully, reliably, extremely correctly. [...] In and outside the church he represented audibly and emphatically what he considered to be his and the church's duty and what his convictions commanded him. To whom he stood, he stood, and his yes was and remained a yes. He was himself, confident and straightforward. "

After his retirement, Alexander Siebenhärl stayed in the community and continued to help out in pastoral care. He died on June 12, 2008 in Altperlach Hospital after an operation that made him unconscious. He rests in his parents' grave in Munich's Ostfriedhof .

Controversy about Hochhuth's "The Deputy"

Siebenhärl gained national notoriety when he vehemently opposed a production of Rolf Hochhuth'sDer Stellvertreter ” in the Wolf-Ferrari-Haus in Ottobrunn in 1987 and initially had the play canceled. The responsible cultural officer was also dismissed. This sparked heated political controversy. When the play was finally performed, it was done under police protection. Hochhuth himself took part in the demonstration.
