Gustav Petzold

Gustav Petzold (also: Gustav Petzoldt ; born January 9, 1880 in Pilsen in Böhmen ; † after 1918) was a German graphic artist , draftsman and bookplate artist and illustrator .

life and work

One of Gustav Petzold's best-known works is his ex-libris, created in Dresden in 1902 for the writer Herman Anders Krüger .

With the artist's signatures Petzold and G. Petzoldt , Gustav Petzold was one of the visual artists of the magazine Jugend - Münchner Illustrierte Wochenschrift für Kunst und Leben at the beginning of the 20th century . For the “youth”, Petzold, who is now counted among the magazine's “Illustrator / Caricaturist / Draftsman” group, created decorative strips and in particular floral Art Nouveau motifs at irregular intervals between 1904 and the end of 1918 .

Around 1906 Petzold worked in Düsseldorf . At a 1909 award ceremony at the Royal Academy in Dresden, where artists from German Bohemia were honored, Petzold received a certificate of honor, according to a report in the Prager Tagblatt, and was also presented with monetary prizes and foundations.
