Margret Rey

Margret Rey ( May 16, 1906 in Hamburg - December 21, 1996 ) was a German-American children's book author who, together with her husband HA Rey, created the children's book series Des Curious George (German: Coco - The Curious Monkey ) and published it from 1939 to 1966 . The couple are among the most successful and well-known American children's book authors.

Life

Born as Margarete Elisabeth Waldstein in Hamburg, she also grew up there. Her father was the liberal politician Felix Waldstein . While HA Rey was working as a sales representative in Brazil in the 1930s, he met Margret there, who had fled there from the Nazis. They moved to Paris, only to flee from there again in 1940 on an adventurous route to New York, with the manuscript for the first Curious George story under their arms.
