Margrit Camenzind
Margrit Camenzind-Wüest (born November 13, 1939 in Gersau in the canton of Schwyz ) is a Swiss politician ( CVP ). From 1986 to 1987 she was National Councilor for the Canton of Thurgau .
Life
Margrit Camenzind grew up in Lucerne, where she worked as a secretary for the governor's office in Lucerne-City and in various trading companies. In 1964 she moved to Frauenfeld . From 1982 to 1988 she was President of the Swiss Catholic Women's Association .
When National Councilor Hans Frei died in office in 1986, Margrit Camenzind succeeded him on June 16, 1986. She was the first woman to represent the Canton of Thurgau in the federal parliament. In the general renewal elections in October 1987, the CVP-Thurgau lost one of its two national council seats and Margrit Camenzind lost this office. Regarding her political motto, she said: "Women are needed everywhere, at all times and in all places."
From 1991 to 2003 she was the first woman to serve in the Frauenfeld city council (city government).
In 2014 she was elected President at the annual meeting of the Swiss Section of the European Women's Union (Sefu).
Margrit Camenzind was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Cultural Foundation of the Canton of Thurgau from 1991 to 1999. She was also a member of the Federal Film Commission and the Commission of the Cantonal Council for the preparation of the Thurgau Cultural Promotion Act.
Margrit Camenzind is the mother of a son and a daughter.
