Mari Takano ( Japanese た か の 舞 俐 , actually: 高 野 眞 理 , Takano Mari ; born February 10, 1960 in Tokyo ) is a Japanese composer.

Life

After completing her studies at the Tōhō-Gakuen-Musikhochschule with Mutsuo Shishido in 1983, she studied at the Freiburg State University of Music with Brian Ferneyhough (diploma 1987) and at the Hamburg University of Music and Performing Arts with György Ligeti . She then worked as a freelance composer and pianist, a. a. as a founding member of Hamburg Consort / Chaosma (under the direction of Manfred Stahnke ), together with Hans Peter Reutter , Sidney Corbett , Hubertus Dreyer and others. Since 1994 she has been living in her native Tokyo again, where she has been teaching music at the Toho Junior College since 1997.

Mari Takano's works have been awarded various prizes, including the Prize of the Mainichi newspaper and the NHK Radio Japan 1980, the Irino Prize for young composers in 1982, the promotion prize of the city of Stuttgart and the 1st prize of the International Composition Competition Ancona (Italy) . Mari Takano received a. a. Orders from the City of Hamburg, the American Embassy Tokyo and the City of Kanagawa.

Mari Takano's works, especially since Women's Paradise (1988–1991), have been shaped at least as much by ethnic music, pop music, jazz and renaissance as by the traditions of new music.

Two CDs with works by the composer have been released by BIS (BIS 1238, Women's Paradise and BIS 1453, LigAlien ).
