Irino price
The Irino Prize ( Japanese 入 野 賞 Irino-shō , English Irino Prize ) is a Japanese music prize that is awarded to young composers as part of an international composition competition . It was donated in honor of the Japanese composer Irino Yoshirō (1921–1980). The Irino Prize Foundation , which was founded after Yoshirō's death in 1980 by his widow Reiko Takahashi Irino in collaboration with the composers Maki Ishii , Jōji Yuasa and Yoriaki Matsudaira , administers the competition. In 2018, the award was announced for the 38th time.
The prize has been awarded since 1981; in 1982, the annual alternating award in the categories of orchestral music and chamber music took place . In the period from 1982 to 1988, the Tonschöpfer were only awarded for new commissioned compositions. Since then, already completed works have been considered. Since the award in 2010, works in the chamber orchestra category have been awarded instead of orchestral music . In accordance with the current regulations, the prize can be awarded to persons under forty, regardless of nationality. The prize money is currently 500,000 yen (approx. 3,500 euros) and 200,000 yen (approx. 1,500 euros). According to Reiko Irino, Irino awards usually lead to increased international attention for the respective composer, e.g. B. in the form of invitations to music festivals.
The permanent jury consists of seven Japanese composers: Jōji Yuasa, Yoriaki Matsudaira, Satoshi Tanaka , Takayuki Rai , Mari Takano , Masahiro Miwa and Haruyuki Suzuki . This is complemented by the guest juror Yasuaki Itakura (conductor and music director of the Tokyo Sinfonietta ).
