Tomi Räisänen (born June 2, 1976 in Helsinki ) is a Finnish composer .

biography

Räisänen studied composition with Erkki Jokinen at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki from 2000 to 2006 and graduated with a Master of Music (M.Mus.). Before studying at the Sibelius Academy, he attended lectures at the University of Helsinki in musicology and composition with Harri Vuori. He also took part in various international master classes, seminars and workshops with composers such as Louis Andriessen , Brian Ferneyhough , Jonathan Harvey , Michael Jarrell , Jouni Kaipainen , Magnus Lindberg , Philippe Manoury and Marco Stroppa .

Räisänen is one of the most played composers of his generation in Finland. His list of works includes around 60 compositions, from solo pieces to chamber and choral music to orchestral works and concerts, and has been performed in more than 35 countries in Europe, North and South America, Asia and Australia. In 2007 Räisänen won the International Irino Prize (shared prize) in Japan for his composition Stheno (2006). In 2002 he received second prize in the international composition competition "2Agosto" in Italy with his composition Nomad (2002). In addition, he successfully took part in composition competitions in Finland and Australia. Räisänen's works are published in Edition TROY.
