Jia Daqun

Jia Daqun ( Chinese : 贾达 群, * August 1955 in Chongqing ) is a Chinese composer .

Jia took painting lessons from Wang Xing-yu at the Sichuan Art Institute from the age of eight to eleven before studying composition at the Conservatory. He is Professor of Composition and Music Theory at the Shanghai Conservatory. 1995–96 he was visiting professor at the University of Redlands and gave lectures on contemporary Chinese music a. a. at the University of Southern California , the University of Minnesota and the University of Michigan , the Music School of Manhattan and Cornell University .

With his Rondo for clarinet and piano, the piece The Dragon and Phoenix Totem for pipa and orchestra, and his symphony , he won prizes at national Chinese composition competitions. His string quartet was awarded the Irino Prize at the 12th competition of the IRINO Foundation for Chamber Music in Japan in 1991 . His works have been performed at festivals for contemporary republic and in numerous cities in China, Japan, Europe and the United States. He composed The Prospect of Colored Desert for Yo-Yo Mas Silk Road Ensemble in 2000 .
