María Cleofas ( Spanish Isla María Cleofas ) is the third largest island of the Mexican Islas Marías in the eastern Pacific Ocean . Administratively it belongs to the municipality of San Blas in the state of Nayarit . The island is named after Maria Kleophae , a disciple of Jesus .

About 70 km off the west coast of Mexico and 12 km southeast of Isla María Magdalena , María Cleofas is the southernmost island of the archipelago, only the Roca Blanca and an unnamed rock are to the south. It is 6.4 km long, up to 5.9 km wide and has an area of ​​19.82 km². The uninhabited island reaches a height of 402  m .

Animal world (fauna)

The Tres Marías deer vole ( Peromyscus madrensis ), which is endemic to the Islas Marías, occurs frequently, in contrast to the other islands, because María Cleofas is free from domestic rats .
