Maria Hilf (Schweinfurt)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Catholic parish church Maria Hilf is a place of worship in the Schweinfurt district of Gartenstadt . The church is on Fritz-Soldmann-Strasse.

history

The early history of Maria Hilf is closely connected with the Anton Church . The Franciscan conventuals, who had tried to establish the parish of St. Anton, established a church service in 1945 in the former kindergarten of the National Socialist People's Welfare . After St. Anton was built on Deutschhöfer Straße in the 1950s, the post-war emergency church remained on Fritz-Soldmann-Straße.

On December 1, 1950, Bishop Julius Döpfner founded the parish Maria Hilf from the district of the parish of St. Anton . At that time the young congregation was given the prospect of building a church. The architect was Peter Krammer from Schweinfurt. The foundation stone was laid on September 18, 1955. The Würzburg bishop Julius Döpfner consecrated the church on October 6th and 7th, 1956.

The church Maria Hilf was renovated in 1969 and 1970, whereby the liturgical reforms of the Second Vatican Council were observed. The architect Klaus Engel was in charge of this renovation. Between 1982 and 1984 the roof was renewed and the chancel redesigned again. In 2006 the side chapel under the tower was converted into a private chapel.

architecture

The Maria-Hilf-Kirche is a simple hall in reinforced concrete frame construction facing south and equipped with a community hall in the basement. The floor plan is cubic . Two large window openings illuminate the church. Inside, a ceiling-high wall panel with a window behind it dominates the church. The 32 m high church tower is rounded off by an irregularly shaped gable roof .

Furnishing

The centerpiece of the church furnishings is the large altarpiece by the Tückelhausen artist Karl Clobes on the partition wall , which leads to the church ceiling. Saint Mary is shown with the baby Jesus. Two versions of the picture are known. The artist Gustl G. Kirchner created the windows of the church, which do not have a specific theme, but are designed for maximum light incidence.

The objects in the church have changed steadily over the past 50 years. Originally, Heinrich Söller created the ambo , main altar, priest's seat and the tabernacle stele from shell limestone , some of which were removed. Ludwig Bossle carried out all the goldsmith's work in 1956. The church portals come from the workshop of the artist Alois Türk. The baptismal font has the typical conical shape of the 1950s. It was created in 1956 by Josef Lehritter and redesigned in 1984 by Willi Grimm.
