Maria Immaculata (Edelfingen)
The Roman Catholic chapel Maria Immaculata in Edelfingen , a district of Bad Mergentheim in the Main-Tauber district , was built in the 1850s and is dedicated to the Immaculate Conception of Mary .
Edelfingen has been evangelical in character since 1563/1564. For centuries, the Catholics in the village formed a small minority. In the middle of the 19th century, the desire of the Catholics for their own place of worship increased as a result of long-running disputes with the local Protestant community.
In February 1851 a building site was finally acquired and construction of the chapel began. The topping-out ceremony was held in autumn 1852. On May 28, 1855, the chapel was consecrated with a gallery and two bells. In 1857 an organ was installed. The chapel is a simple hall building with an older entrance tower from 1674. In 1872 a renovation followed.
The Maria Immaculata chapel is a so-called branch church of the Catholic parish of St. Johannes in Bad Mergentheim and belongs to the pastoral care unit 1a - LAMM , which is assigned to the Mergentheim dean's office in the Rottenburg-Stuttgart diocese . The building is a cultural monument of the city of Bad Mergentheim.
