history

Founding and development after the Second World War

The Caritas Hospital Bad Mergentheim was founded in 1946 to care for the sick from the region, wounded former soldiers, homeless refugees and children after the Second World War . The American military government found a carrier for the hospital in the Caritas Association of Württemberg who took on these tasks. By the end of the 1940s, the department for internal medicine and the surgical-orthopedic department were set up in addition to a tuberculosis clinic. In the 1960s, departments for ophthalmology, ENT, urology and dermatology were added. In the 1970s, urology became the main department. The women's clinic, anesthesiology, radiology and a dialysis department were added. A new children's clinic brought with it a new building. In addition, two more staff dormitories were built.

Integration of other hospitals

In 1989 the district hospital of the Main-Tauber district was integrated into the CKBM and became the surgical clinic of the Caritas hospital. In the 1990s, the Ministry of Social Affairs in Stuttgart and the Caritas Association invested in a modern, architecturally sophisticated new building and extension. A major fire in 1994 required further renovations. In 1997 a new functional building with a light-flooded hall was opened. In 2001, the traditional Catholic Rochus Hospital was integrated into the Caritas Hospital, combined with the construction of another bed wing. Pathology, neurology and the clinical laboratory were added to the previous departments.

Support partnership

After 60 years of sole management, the Caritas Association found a partner to sponsor the hospital in the Barmherzige Brüder Trier eV (BBT). Since April 2006, this association has been largely responsible for the house. This also resulted in a further closer cooperation: Since January 1, 2012, Gesundheitsholding Tauberfranken gGmbH has served as the joint corporate umbrella of Caritas-Krankenhaus Bad Mergentheim gGmbH (CKBM) and Krankenhaus und Heime Main-Tauber GmbH (KHMT). In 2014, the legal form of the Association of Barmherzige Brüder in Barmherzige Brüder Trier gGmbH took place .

Expansion of the areas

Centers for colon cancer, breast cancer and prostate cancer were established in 2008. Until 2010, the Caritas hospital was an academic teaching hospital at Heidelberg University . It has been an academic teaching hospital at the University of Würzburg since 2010. In 2011, a new radiation clinic was opened together with the external partner “Radiation Therapy Tauberfranken”. In 2011 a new mother-child center was inaugurated and in 2012 a new cardiac catheter laboratory with 3D technology was added.

Head of the house Thomas Wigant about "Caritas":

“Caritas is a living symbol of Caritas: Service to people - as Jesus' salvation mission, implemented in a contemporary way with the latest technology and a high level of competence, and above all with humanity. This remains our challenge for the future, new every day and for each and every one of our more than 1,300 employees. "
