Maria Loreto in Starý Hrozňatov (German Altkinsberg ) in the Okres Cheb of Karlovarský kraj in the western Czech Republic , near the town of Cheb , is a Catholic pilgrimage site and place of grace. Since 1664, when the foundation stone was laid for the Maria Loreto sanctuary and the twenty-seven stations of the Cross , Altkinsberg has been a much-visited place of pilgrimage for the Egerländer and also the population of the neighboring Stiftland and Sechsämterland in Bavaria .

history

Margrave Georg Albrecht von Brandenburg-Kulmbach married the bourgeois Regine Magdalene Lutz in 1699 in a morganatic marriage . The marriage was concluded against the will of the margravial relatives in Maria Loreto on April 27, 1699 outside the sphere of influence of the margravate.

In 1949, after the Communist Party came to power in Czechoslovakia and the beginning of the Cold War, the decline and partial destruction of Maria Loreto began. When the borders were opened in 1989 after the collapse of the communist regime, the first Catholics again made pilgrimages to the ruins of the pilgrimage site.

24. Station of the Cross

In 1992, a support association was founded in the neighboring Bavarian border town of Waldsassen under the leadership of the former Kinsberg resident and factory owner Anton Hart . In the following years he worked with the Czech authorities to rebuild the dilapidated buildings and renovate the remaining parts of the pilgrimage site. The associated cemetery was also redesigned. The station houses on the Way of the Cross leading to the pilgrimage site were also renovated. The motifs behind iron bars are shown on a photo wallpaper. The partly steep path between the stations of the cross is a grassy field that can only be walked on when it is dry and without the risk of slipping. The photo wallpapers in the station houses begin to roll up and peel off.

The place of pilgrimage is the destination of the modern pilgrimage route Via Porta . The German-Czech border can be crossed as a pedestrian at Neualbenreuth .

The pictures show Maria Loreto after the opening of the border around 1990 and during the renovation work after 1992:
