Maria Mercè Roca i Perich (born July 19, 1958 in Portbou ) is a Catalan writer , screenwriter and politician .

Roca is one of the most successful contemporary authors in Catalan literature . Her novels are characterized by detailed psychological descriptions of people in situations of uncertainty, fear or grief. Roca has received several awards for her work (Premi Josep Pla , 1986; Premi Sant Jordi , 1992; Premi Ramon Llull , 2000).

Roca has been a member of the Catalan Parliament for the Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya party since 2003 .

Life

When she was 16 she moved to Girona to study, and that's where her location is based. Although she did not complete her studies in Catalan Philology, she worked as a Catalan lecturer for many years. Roca was well known in the mid- 1980s when it won the Víctor Català Prize. Her literary activity then continued with an extensive production of stories, novels and the script for the television series Secrets de família , broadcast on TV3 . Her works have been translated into Spanish, Basque, French, German and Dutch.

Roca is Vice President of the Associació d'Escriptors en Llengua Catalana .

Roca was also active in politics. From 2003 to 2010 she was a member of the Parliament de Catalunya ( Catalan Parliament ). There she was President of the Culture Committee from 2007 to 2010.

In the local elections in 2015 , she ran for the Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya party for the Girona City Council.
