Josep Pla i Casadevall (born March 8, 1897 in Palafrugell , † April 23, 1981 in Llofriu ) was a Spanish journalist and writer in Spanish and Catalan .

Life

Josep Pla worked as a journalist in France , Italy , England , Germany and Russia , where he wrote political and cultural chronicles .

His literary work, created over a period of six decades, plays an essential role in renewing the Catalan language and promoting Catalan customs and traditions across countries. His comments , chronicles and reports from the different countries of his work are considered unique historical evidence of the 20th century.

At the time of early Franquism (until 1947) his works in the Catalan language were banned. Recent biographical research shows, however, that Pla was close to the Spanish national camp during the time of the Spanish Civil War and gathered information for the Francoist intelligence service.

Josep Pla is still considered one of the most widely read and popular contemporary Catalan authors 25 years after his death.
