Maria Pacis Irene Vögel CPS (born November 2, 1931 in Schwarzenberg , Vorarlberg as Irene Vögel , † November 2, 2010 in Nairobi , Kenya ) was an Austrian Roman Catholic nun and missionary.

Life

Irene Vögel grew up in Schwarzenberg. In 1957 she entered the branch of the Missionary Sisters of the Precious Blood in Wernberg , Carinthia , and received her sister's name "Maria Pacis". In 1973 she was posted to Kenya. There she worked as a missionary mainly in the field of education. She taught at schools and children's homes and was also employed at times with the school management.

From 1994 to April 2001, Vögel was the director of Precious Blood Secondary School , a secondary school located in a slum area on the outskirts of Nairobi. During this time, the school achieved the best exam results eight times in over 4000 secondary schools across Kenya. In 2002 she took over the management of the Precious Blood Convent in Nairobi and built an elementary school for 200 street children as well as a rehabilitation center to help the children prepare for their later life. From 2006 she worked at the Star of Hope Children's Home orphanage in Juja . Vogel died in Nairobi, Kenya after a brief serious illness.
