Romero Prize
The Romero Prize has been awarded in Austria since 1980 by the Catholic Men's Movement (KMB) . There is also the Oscar Romero Prize in Germany , which has been awarded since 2003 by the Friends of the Oscar Romero House in Bonn . Both prices refer to the Archbishop of San Salvador Oscar Romero , who in his Salvadoran homeland had decidedly on the side of the poor and disenfranchised and was therefore shot at the altar in 1980 by a command of the military dictatorship.
The Romero Prize of the Austrian Catholic Men's Movement
The Romero Prize is an Austrian human rights prize that has been awarded annually since 1980 by the Austrian Catholic Men's Movement (KMBÖ). The award goes to people or groups who work in a special way for justice, human rights and development in third world countries . The prize is endowed with € 10,000.
The Oscar Romero Prize is one of the most important awards in the field of development cooperation in Austria. In 2015, according to the KMBÖ, the award of the award was deliberately suspended with a view to the 35th anniversary. In future, the aim is to anchor the award even more firmly in the public's awareness.
