In the order she worked as a teacher , inspector and organizer of the Eucharistic World Congress . In 1965 she founded the social-Christian foundation Fundación Social Cristiana (Funscri), which works to improve living conditions for the Afro-Colombian population. She gave classes and was the director of various schools. Moises campaigned for the oppressed Colombian population for over 55 years.

A refugee settlement named after her on the outskirts of Cartagena, where around 2000 people lived, was cleared by the police on February 11, 2008. However, the district was later rebuilt, and numerous international letters of protest achieved a peaceful solution. The "Barrio Madre Herlinda Moises" is growing slowly, but still has no infrastructure. March 24, 2010 marks the second anniversary of the founding (or rebuilding) of the poor district.

Moises died in Colombia on 20 November 2006 of cancer . After her death, the foundation she founded was renamed and is now called “Fundación Madre Herlinda Moises”.
