Siegfried Pater (2007)

Siegfried Josef Pater (born February 26, 1945 in Thum ; † February 7, 2015 in Bonn ) was a German journalist , writer and film director .

Life

After studying surveying technology and economics , Pater was a development worker in Brazil from 1967 to 1969 . Between 1980 and 1982 he was a member of the board of directors of the German Development Service (DED) and a founding member of several development and cultural organizations such as the Heinrich Böll Foundation and the Latin America Information Center . Pater has published numerous books and films on fair trade and other development issues. In 1996 he founded the Retap publishing house, which he managed until his death.

Siegfried Pater Prize

Since 2016 Retap has awarded the Siegfried Pater Prize, which is endowed with 1500 euros and named after him, with which journalistic projects are to be honored, which want to be investigative and participatory as a mouthpiece for more justice. The first prize winner was the author Kathrin Hartmann .
