Village church

Petriroda is a district of the rural community Georgenthal in the Thuringian district of Gotha .

geography

The place is at the northern foot of the Thuringian Forest . The closest places are Emleben in the north (3.6 km by road), Schwabhausen in the northeast (3.5 km as the crow flies), Hohenkirchen in the south (2.2 km by road) and Wipperoda in the west (3 km as the crow flies). Petriroda has a stop on the Ohratalbahn branch line from Gotha to Gräfenroda, on which, however, passenger traffic is suspended for the time being.

history

Petriroda celebrated its 650th anniversary in 1999, the place was first mentioned in a document in 1349 by Landgrave Friedrichals Piczgenrode . There was a manor in Petriroda. The place belonged to the upper county of Gleichen in the duchy of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg until the middle of the 19th century and then to the district office of Ohrdruf in the duchy of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha .

Petriroda was persecuted by witches from 1675 to 1694 . Two women got into witch trials , one on charges of milk spell , the other on alleged lice making.

Since February 6, 1992, the Petriroda community was a member of the Apfelstädtaue administrative community based in Georgenthal. With the dissolution of this on December 31, 2019, Petriroda merged with other communities to form the rural community of Georgenthal. The last mayor of the Petriroda community was Marcel Schönau.

Townscape

Petriroda is crossed by the raft ditch . On the 375 m above sea level. NN high Sandberg east of the village in the direction of Schwabhausen , six large wind turbines dominate the landscape.

Attractions

  • The 3.04 hectare large natural monument crane moor is located near Petriroda . The former peat mining area was placed under protection in 1962.
  • There is an old, half-sunk landmark near the village .
  • On the bike path towards Schwabhausen there is a carp pond from Fischzucht Reinhardsbrunn GmbH , which is freshly filled with water every year through an underground connecting channel from the raft ditch and completely emptied in autumn when fishing. Every year in June the traditional pond festival with music, food, drink and a campfire takes place, which is organized with the participation of the community, associations and citizens.
  • The small village church of St. Salvator measures 13.8 × 8.6 m in area and was built in 1714. The church has a two-story, circumferential gallery and a mirror vault . In the 1850s the church received a Knauf organ. The pulpit altar was erected in the second half of the 18th century . As early as the 1980s began with the renovation, in 2002 the church tower was renovated and newly verschiefert . The church is a listed building. The six people who died in the First World War from Petriroda are commemorated above the entrance, while a memorial in the churchyard is dedicated to the 18 soldiers who died in the Second World War .
The parish today belongs to the parish Hohenkirchen , to which Herrenhof also belongs, after it was a branch of Schwabhausen until 1996 .

Club life

In Petriroda there are two larger associations, the SG Petriroda and the fire brigade association. The SG Petriroda is the local sports club and offers its members the possibility of bowling on a two-lane automatic system in three men's, one women's or one youth team or participation in one of the various gymnastics groups. The sports club also organizes the annual carnival with a program as well as a sports festival and the acceptance of the sports badge. The fire brigade association supports the local fire brigade, furthermore it actively helps with the implementation of Petriroda festivities such as setting the maypole with a torchlight parade or the pond party with a campfire. He also supports the work of the local youth fire brigade.
