Maria Pia della Grazia di Borbone (born August 2, 1849 in Gaeta , † September 29, 1882 in Biarritz ) was a princess of Naples-Sicily .

Life

Maria Pia was the daughter of King Ferdinand II of the Two Sicilies and Archduchess Maria Theresa of Austria .

She married Duke Robert I of Bourbon-Parma , son of Duke Charles III, in Rome on April 5, 1869 . of Parma and Louise Marie Thérèse d'Artois , royal princess of France.

Some children were mentally or physically disabled. This was due to the close relationship between Duke Robert and Maria Pia, who were second cousins. The marriage had twelve children:

Duchess Maria Pia died in Biarritz on September 29, 1882 at the age of 33 , one week after the birth of her last child. Duke Robert married Maria Antonia of Portugal for the second time in 1884 . His best-known child from this second marriage was the future Empress Zita of Austria .
